Last spring, the English Graduate Student Association elected Jim McGrath as its president for the 2014-2015 academic year. Elizabeth Hopwood is EGSA Vice President, Liz Polcha is our new PhD Representative, and Sarah Stanley is our new MA Representative. This fall, the EGSA has held regular meetings each month to discuss the various issues impacting graduate life at Northeastern. Additionally, we held a special meeting for new students in the department, as well as a meeting with Prof. Green and Prof. Peterfreund to discuss recent department developments. The EGSA also conducted its own survey on feedback received during course work, and we presented a summary of our review to the GSC in December. Several members of the EGSA have been actively involved in planning our spring 2015 event: a symposium on graduate labor. This symposium (date to be announced) will be held in lieu of the annual conference: the EGSA community has chosen to spend its time and resources highlighting this important component of university life at Northeastern and elsewhere.
The EGSA is also interested in documenting and archiving its institutional history for future graduate students. If you are a former member of the EGSA and you have any material that you’d like us to archive – conference posters, photos, e-mails, etc. – please contact Jim: firstname.lastname@example.org.
In the spring, we plan to host an information session for graduate students looking for employment opportunities during the summer. If you are an alum with strong professional contacts in the Boston or Cambridge area, please e-mail Jim at the address above. Thanks, and happy holidays!
