Northeastern University Sponsors Film at the Boston Jewish Film Festival

Wednesday, November 9th @ 7 PM- Coolidge Corner Theater

Northeastern University’s Jewish Studies, Cinema Studies, and Women’s Studies Programs, together with the ASL Program and the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures, are pleased to sponsor the film, “Deaf Jam” at the Boston Jewish Film Festival.  Filmmaker Judy Lieff tells the story of teen Aneta Brodski, a student at the school for the deaf in Queens and her bold entry into the world of American Sign Language (ASL) poetry and Manhattan’s spoken word slam scene, where Aneta, an Israeli immigrant meets, Tahani, a hearing Palestinian slam poet.  The two collaborate on a powerful duet that mirrors the complex worlds they share.  Deaf Jam uses innovative film techniques to honor ASL as a three- dimensional language that exists in space, like dance.  In English and ASL, fully captioned.  More info on the film: www.deafjam.org
