Projects & Activities

To individuals who are deaf or deaf-blind, access to VR services, mental and physical healthcare, social services, education, telecommunications, the justice system, and civic life depends upon the availability of qualified interpreters.

National needs assessments conducted in the previous grant cycle identify a shortage of incoming interpreters into the field, a shortage of specialty-setting qualified interpreters, and a pending loss of experienced interpreters due to retirement.

Here you will find information on the projects and activities of the Northeastern University Regional Interpreter Education Center, in collaboration with the National Consortium of Interpreter Education Centers, that address the needs of the communities we serve.

NURIEC promotes effective practices across the continuum of interpreting education, from undergraduate program recruitment through graduation, mentorship, certification test preparation and certification maintenance, and specialization.
